Who we are and how we work
The Free State Squash Association is a voluntary association with its headquarters in Bloemfontein. It is the controlling and administrative body for squash in the province, subject to Squash South Africa and the rules of the World Squash Federation.
What the constitution asks of us
Our objectives, as set out in the constitution, are simple enough to fit on a card:
- To act as the controlling and administrative body for squash in the Free State, under Squash South Africa.
- To promote the game of squash in the province.
- To develop the game of squash in the province.
- To provide the structure within which leagues, tournaments, dispute resolution and disciplinary action are organised.
Membership is open to squash clubs (or the squash section of a larger club), schools, tertiary institutions, private clubs and public court owners in the province. Each member club or school is automatically represented on the main committee by one representative.
The financial year runs from 1 October to 30 September. The Annual General Meeting is held within two months of year end, on at least 21 days' written notice, and receives the chairman's report, the audited financial statements and a budget, and elects the office bearers for the coming year.
Meetings
General meetings are held roughly monthly, currently online at 17h15, and are open to all club representatives. A quorum is five members. Minutes are circulated to the executive group and to club representatives, and published here once confirmed at the next meeting.
Club representatives who cannot attend may send a proxy. One written proxy per person.

Executive committee
Office bearers, 2025/26
Elected at the November 2025 AGM. Every member club and school also has a seat on the main committee through its club representative.
Club representatives on the committee include Clint Gouws (Bobbies Park), Tremayne McDonald (Ramblers), Johan Smit and Rocky le Roux.
Safeguarding
Squash SA's Safeguarding Policy applies to every member of the Association and every club. Squash SA has a zero-tolerance approach to the abuse or exploitation of children and vulnerable persons. The policy expects each province and each club to appoint a Designated Safeguarding Officer, to have an anonymous reporting procedure, and to require of coaches and officials clearance against the Sexual Offences and Child Protection registers, a criminal clearance, a declaration of good standing, a signed code of ethics and a safeguarding awareness certificate.
Concerns can be raised in confidence with any member of the executive committee.
Clean sport
The Association distributes the anti-doping information it receives from Squash SA, WADA and the International Testing Agency to club representatives. Players selected for national events should expect to be tested and should check any medication against the current prohibited list.
